Renovation Resolution

Do you tend to bite off more than you can chew when it comes to home improvement projects?

Take inventory of all those projects that are on your to-do list or that are already underway. Prioritize them, putting at the top of your list any repairs or renovations that will make your house safer (e.g., adding handrails to staircases) or prevent damage to it (e.g., fixing a water leak).

Starting with the first item on your list, ask yourself some questions: When does this project need to be finished? Do you have time enough to devote to seeing this project through to completion? Be honest! Do you have the skills necessary to finish the job? What about the necessary tools?

If you don’t have all the time, tools, or know-how you need, hire someone to do the job for you, whether in whole or in part (like the part that’s been sitting unfinished for ages). Don’t think of calling in reinforcements as admitting defeat – think of it as doing what needs to be done in order to move the project into your complete column and make your house a better place to live.

Lastly, resolve not to start the next project on your list until the current one is finished!
